Our corrections facilities' focus on life and arts education for inmates have borne remarkable fruit. To show the results of this breakthrough innovative idea and raise public awareness for its effects, the Agency hosted "New Beginnings, Stunning Art: Performances and Works by Corrections Facilities Inmates" at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei on August 13 and 14, 2013. A total of 238 artistically talented inmates, selected across the country, were invited to this national stage to put their transformation through arts education on full display in 9 performances, including drums, Sichuan opera, music, dance, and choir. Vice President Wu Den-yih was among the 5,000 guests in attendance.

This performance was an important innovation in the history of corrections in Taiwan. The event was meticulously planned, from the selection of performers to the arrangement of the program. In particular, the logistical and security risks associated with bringing 238 inmates from facilities across the country to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall posed an immense challenge. However, spurred by the sense of mission and a can-do attitude, staff members from all of our facilities worked together seamlessly, and inmates practiced with dedication, to solve all of these challenges. The performance was a smashing success.
