The Corrections Arts and Culture Exhibition Hall was formally established with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 3, 2014. Formerly the Taitung Detention Center, the site became the national exhibition hall for corrections-related arts and culture as part of its revitalization plans. The site was restored to its previous appearance over a decade ago, with its workshops and dormitories opened to visitors.

The exhibition space is divided into three areas: the arts and culture exhibition area, the corrections artifacts exhibition area, and the workshop and dormitory experience area. An separate educational exhibition hall provides resources and information on rehabilitation services. The arts and culture exhibition area showcases the products of inmate arts and culture education. Works on display include calligraphy, oil paintings, wood carvings, ceramics, and pottery. The corrections artifacts exhibition area shows contraband as well as uniforms and equipment for corrections officers through the years. Corrections-related laws and regulations are also explained. The experience area features diverse interactive spaces that re-create the living environments of real corrections facilities. The visitors are given an up-close experience of the lives of inmates, from their living quarters to eating and drinking, bathing, and working.

The educational exhibition hall serves the important function of educating society. Topics include law and rehabilitation, so that better legal knowledge may become more widespread in society. The exhibition hall also collaborates with elementary schools and junior high schools to start legal education early, allowing corrections facilities to play a positive and educational role.

The opening of the Corrections Arts and Culture Exhibition Hall gives the general public a multifaceted and interesting look into the workings of corrections facility operations. Through this lens, corrections facilities are no longer places where people lose their freedom, but places where inmates undergo metamorphosis and transformation into new people. We would like to extend a heartfelt welcome for the public to sample this feast of art. The Exhibition Hall closes on Mondays and national holidays. Visitors are admitted by reservation only during working hours between Tuesday and Friday, and by general admission between 10 and 12 AM and 2 and 4 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. The opening ceremony will feature performances from inmates, including indigenous dances by Taitung Prison, Bunon eight-part harmony singing by Taitung Drug Abuser Treatment Center, drum performances by Yanwan Training Institute, and jazz by Taiyuan Training Institute. There will also be an exhibition of arts, crafts, and food from corrections facilities, showcasing the outstanding food produced at corrections facility workshops. The mouth-watering cuisine on display will include black feather chicken soup, rotisserie chicken, dumplings, salted pork, organic vegetables, desserts, peeled chilies, Chinese pretzels, nougats, pineapple cakes, ah-bai (an Aborigine rice cake), honey drinks, and mulberry vinegar. This exhibition will showcase the diverse and dynamic side of correctional work, increasing public good will for the skills training offered by corrections facilities as well as the hard work and changes undertaken by inmates.
